Biography
Hi.
My name is J. R. Cobern ...or Rusty to my friends and clients. I am 55
years old and my wife, Pam, and I have three wonderful children. We’ve
lived in Austin since we moved here from San Antonio in 1986.
Although
we’ve lived in two fairly large towns for the past 30+ years, I still consider
myself a “country boy”. I grew up in the small West Texas town of Paint
Rock
(population 196), hunting and fishing along the Concho River, playing
6-man football, and working on local farms and ranches. I am the
son of two school teachers. After high school, I attended Texas
State University (then known as SWT), in San Marcos, TX on a partial
football scholarship. After a couple of seasons, I left the
football team (right before they won back-to-back National
Championships) and started working full-time. I graduated from
Texas State University in 1983 with degrees in accounting and finance.
I am a Certified Public Accountant, licensed by the State of Texas
since September 1987. For most of my adult life, I worked two jobs,
holding various managerial and executive positions and owning and
operating my public accounting practice, J.R. Cobern, CPA. I left
my last executive position in early 2011 and now devote my time to my
CPA practice and family interests. I am a member of the American
Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Austin Referal
Alliance.
My wife,
Pam, works with me and handles many administrative functions as well as some bookkeeping chores. Although Pam and I don’t have much spare time; however, we make time for our
Church activities. When we
have time, we enjoy hunting, fishing, and boating.
